Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Recall Over 200,000 Electric Vehicles in the US Due to Charging Control Device Defect

Hyundai Motor Company and Kia are recalling approximately 200,000 electric vehicles in the United States. The recall is due to a defect in the charging control unit.

According to a recall report from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on the 22nd (local time), Hyundai and Kia are recalling about 200,000 electric vehicles in the U.S. due to a defect in the charging control unit. The recall includes approximately 145,000 Hyundai and Genesis vehicles such as the 2022?2024 Ioniq 5, 2023?2025 Ioniq 6, GV60, and GV70 models. For Kia, about 63,000 EV6 units produced between 2022 and 2024 are included.

The report explained that the transistor in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) of these vehicles may be damaged, which can cause the 12V battery charging to stop, increasing the risk of accidents. The ICCU is a key electronic control system responsible for charging and power management in electric and hybrid vehicles.

Hyundai and Kia dealers will inspect the affected units, replace them if necessary, and update the software, the report added.
