Opening in 2026... Proposals for Establishment and Quota Allocation

Jeonnam Province submitted a recommendation letter for the establishment of a national medical school under the "Integrated University National Medical School" to the Presidential Office, the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare on the 22nd.
Jeonnam Province also requested the swift advancement of procedures for establishing the national medical school and allocating student quotas to ensure the school opens in the 2026 academic year.

In the recommendation letter, Jeonnam Province stated, "In March of this year, the government announced the 'Promotion of Establishing a National Medical School in Jeollanam-do' through a presidential address and a public statement, requesting Jeonnam Province to select a university, thereby opening the path for the establishment of the medical school." It added, "In response to the government's request, we made every effort to develop the optimal plan for establishing the medical school by extensively gathering opinions from the regional national universities?National Mokpo University and National Suncheon University?as well as from residents and the local community."
It continued, "After various discussions, on November 15, both universities reached a grand agreement to promote the 'Integrated University National Medical School' through university integration that fosters regional coexistence and harmony, creating a driving force for future development and aligning with the government's 'One Province, One National University' policy."
Jeonnam Province requested, "In accordance with the university integration agreement, we recommend the 'Integrated University National Medical School' that meets the government's request, and ask the government to promptly proceed with the necessary procedures to ensure the national medical school in Jeollanam-do opens in the 2026 academic year."
Following Jeonnam Province's government recommendation, National Mokpo University and National Suncheon University plan to apply for preliminary accreditation from the Korea Institute of Medical Education and Evaluation (KIMEE) under the name of the "Jeollanam-do Integrated University National Medical School," and submit the university integration application to the Ministry of Education by the end of December this year.
