Paid Broadcasting Subscribers Decrease for the Second Consecutive Time... Down by About 5,000 Compared to the Second Half of Last Year

The number of paid broadcasting subscribers, including Internet TV (IPTV) and cable TV, slowed down for the second consecutive time from the second half of last year through the first half of this year.


The Ministry of Science and ICT announced the number of paid broadcasting subscribers and market share for the first half of 2024 on the 22nd.


As of the first half of this year, the number of paid broadcasting subscribers was 36,304,778, a decrease of 5,328 compared to the second half of last year.


This marks a consecutive decline following the first decrease (-37,389) recorded in the second half of last year.


The number of IPTV subscribers increased by 145,664 (0.41%) compared to the previous period, but the number of cable TV (SO) and satellite broadcasting subscribers continued to decline.


The number of cable TV and satellite broadcasting subscribers decreased by 129,004 (-1.03%) and 21,988 (-0.77%), respectively, compared to the previous period.


The top operators by number of subscribers were KT (24.4%), SK Broadband (IPTV) (18.6%), LG Uplus (15.1%), LG HelloVision (9.8%), and SK Broadband (SO) (7.8%), in that order.
