Yangju City Secures 104.2 Billion KRW in National and Provincial Funds for Sewer Infrastructure Expansion

Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 22nd that it has secured a total budget of 104.2 billion KRW, including 88.1 billion KRW in national funds and 16.1 billion KRW in provincial funds, to expand sewage infrastructure such as public sewage treatment plants and sewage pipelines in preparation for the increasing population and to leap forward as the central city of northern Gyeonggi.

The city’s population is rapidly increasing due to various development projects such as the Okjeong and Hoecheon Yangju New Town residential development districts and the Yangju Station area, approaching 300,000 residents after achieving the highest national population growth rate last year. Accordingly, projects to build new and expand existing sewage treatment plants in Okjeong, Nambang, Gwangjeok, Songchu, and Jangheung are underway to secure capacity for public sewage treatment plants.

In particular, in accordance with the Imjingang unit watershed discharge water quality strengthening notice, the Sincheon Public Sewage Treatment Facility water quality improvement project is being promoted in consultation with the Ministry of Environment to preserve the water quality of public water bodies. Of the total project cost of 62.7 billion KRW, 48.7 billion KRW (37.4 billion KRW national funds, 11.3 billion KRW provincial funds) has been secured from national and provincial sources.

Additionally, to preserve river water quality and improve citizens’ residential environments, five sewage pipeline construction and maintenance projects, including the Eunhyeon Treatment Area (Yongam 2) sewage pipeline maintenance project, are being promoted.

Especially, to preserve the natural environment of Jangheung-myeon, a clean area where culture and nature coexist, the Gongneungcheon watershed collector pipeline maintenance project, applied for as a national subsidy project, was selected as a new target site for 2025, securing 19.1 billion KRW in national and provincial funds. In total, 55.5 billion KRW (50.7 billion KRW national funds, 4.8 billion KRW provincial funds) out of the total 93.8 billion KRW project cost for sewage pipeline maintenance projects has been secured, reducing the financial burden on the city and striving to secure sewage infrastructure suitable for a mid-sized city with a population of 300,000.

Mayor Kang Su-hyun requested, “Despite difficult financial conditions, please do your best to ensure that the essential sewage infrastructure projects for urban development proceed smoothly in line with Yangju City’s growth.”
