Pukyong National University Holds '2024 Fisheries Expert Course Completion Ceremony'

Graduation Ceremony for 32 Students of the 13th Class on the 21st, Over 380 Fisheries Experts Trained in 13 Years

National Pukyong National University (President Bae Sang-hoon) held the '2024 Fisheries Industry Expert Course Completion Ceremony' on the afternoon of November 21 at the Busan West District Advanced Seafood Processing Complex.

The Fisheries Industry Expert Course is a program designed to transfer advanced fisheries technology and trends to local seafood processing business owners and workers to secure the competitiveness of Busan's fisheries industry. Since its establishment in 2012 by the Fisheries Processing Research Center of Pukyong National University under the commission of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and Busan City, the program has produced a total of about 380 fisheries experts, including 32 graduates this year.


At the event, 32 graduates of the 13th class received certificates in the presence of Jeon Byung-soo, Director of the Fisheries Processing Research Center at Pukyong National University, Lee Geum-ok, Head of the Fisheries Promotion Division of Busan City, representatives of the graduating class, and graduates. Awards were presented as follows: Kang Jeong-seok, CEO of Aram Trading, received the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Commendation; Kang Yoo-jung, Manager at Aram Trading, received the Busan Mayor’s Commendation; Kim Kyu-bin, Director of Myungseong Refresh, received the President of Pukyong National University Commendation; and Lee Dong-soon, Executive Director of BSL, along with six others, received the Director of the Fisheries Processing Research Center Commendation.


This year, 100 hours of education were conducted covering the latest technological trends, including the 2024 Post-COVID Fisheries Food Industry Trends to lead the global blue food tech trend, World Food Tech Initiative, establishment of smart factories for seafood processing, seafood export trends and global non-tariff barrier issues, and B2B digital marketing in the seafood processing industry, through both theoretical and field training.


Jeon Byung-soo, Director of the Fisheries Processing Research Center, stated, “We have conducted the curriculum so that trainees of the Fisheries Industry Expert Course can lead sustainable fisheries in the era of climate crisis and play a leading role in international affairs. We will continue to strive to discover the potential of Busan’s seafood processing industry and nurture fisheries experts who can enhance the added value of the fisheries industry.”


Pukyong National University plans to reflect the results of graduate satisfaction surveys and lecture evaluations in the 2025 education program.
