"‘I Will Ruin Your Business’ Abusive Public Official Sent to Prosecution... Chicken Restaurant Closes Down"

A public official from Daegu Jung-gu Office was sent to the prosecution on charges of spilling beer on the floor at a local chicken restaurant and making threatening remarks to the owner.

On the 22nd, Daegu Jungbu Police Station announced that they had sent Mr. A, a public official in his 40s from Jung-gu Office, to the prosecution on charges of intimidation. Mr. A is accused of visiting a chicken restaurant in Jung-gu last June with three colleagues from the Jung-gu Office, spilling beer on the floor, and making remarks to the owner along the lines of "I will ruin your business."

The incident gained widespread attention after the chicken restaurant owner shared the story on a self-employed online community. According to the post, four men appearing to be in their 40s to 50s ordered chicken and alcohol, and after the food was served, the owner's wife noticed beer spilled all over the floor near the table. Eventually, the owner's wife wiped the beer spilled under the table with a kitchen towel.

However, the customers said things like, "I paid for this. Did we pee on the floor? It's possible to spill beer. Did we run away without paying? If you run your business like this, you'll become rich." In particular, one of the customers reportedly said, "I am a public official at the district office, and no one in the neighborhood doesn't know me. This is the first time I've seen a place like this. I will make sure this business fails immediately." CCTV footage inside the store shows a man sitting near the aisle deliberately pouring alcohol on the floor twice.

As public criticism intensified, Ryu Gyu-ha, the head of Jung-gu Office, issued an apology. Following this, Jung-gu Office conducted an audit and reported two employees, including Mr. A, to the police. A police official stated, "Mr. A did not reveal that he was a public official but admitted to making remarks with the intent to ruin the business, while the other employee who was reported was found to have no grounds for charges."

Jung-gu Office plans to decide on disciplinary action based on the final investigation results regarding Mr. A. It has been confirmed that the chicken restaurant, operated by the couple, closed down after the incident came to light.
