A woman driver in her 20s who smashed her Mercedes-Benz vehicle and hurled insults at passersby in the middle of Seoul during the morning rush hour was apprehended by the police. It was revealed that she was in a level of intoxication warranting license cancellation at the time of the incident.
On the 21st, the Seoul Gwanak Police Station announced that they plan to investigate the woman driver, identified as A, without detention on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving). Around 8 a.m. that day, A blocked a road near Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, with her black Mercedes-Benz vehicle. She then kicked her car’s side mirror and repeatedly hit the trunk area with her cellphone. During this, she shouted insults at drivers honking to ask her to move the car and at nearby citizens.
Police investigation confirmed that A was intoxicated at a level warranting license cancellation, but she was not under the influence of drugs.
The police stated, "Since A damaged her own vehicle, charges such as property damage were not applied," and added, "We will only investigate the violation of the Road Traffic Act related to drunk driving."
