Starting Next Month, 1000 High School Seniors Targeted
Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) will operate a smoking and drinking prevention program in high school classrooms within the district starting next month for high school seniors who have completed the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT).
This program was prepared to instill correct awareness of smoking and drinking among youth before entering college and society, and to prevent the harms caused by smoking and drinking. The district will operate the program for about 1,000 third-year students at three high schools within the district, based on a demand survey of schools wishing to participate in the program.
Gangbuk-gu will conduct a youth alcohol prevention program after the college entrance exam. Provided by Gangbuk-gu.
Students will move between classrooms by class units and participate in programs conducted by university student smoking cessation and drinking moderation supporters assigned to each classroom, learning accurate information and knowledge related to smoking and drinking.
To increase students' interest, the district has prepared various programs such as a brain survival OX quiz through quizzes, a drinking risk constitution test and feedback, and the AIRPORT game, a training to improve communication and self-determination skills in smoking and drinking situations through games.
Additionally, a virtual drinking experience using drinking goggles to experience the physical harms of drinking, and the "Draw in a Row" game to learn about the impact of exposure to smoking and drinking scenes in media have also been prepared. After the program, participation levels will be evaluated by class, and prizes will be distributed based on the evaluation results.
Meanwhile, on the 18th, university student smoking cessation and drinking moderation supporters received training at the Gangbuk-gu Public Health Center auditorium. After completing the training, the university students will participate in the smoking and drinking prevention program, informing youth about proper smoking and drinking habits and serving as strong supporters for a healthy future.
Mayor Lee Soon-hee said, “At this point after the CSAT, it is essential for youth to learn correct knowledge about smoking and drinking,” and added, “I hope that through this smoking and drinking prevention program, young people will make healthy choices and move in a positive direction.”
