Filling Public Transit Gaps Due to Strikes, Aiming to Alleviate Traffic Congestion

Gbike, the operator of the personal mobility platform ‘GCOO,’ announced on the 22nd that it will provide free shared electric bicycle and electric scooter services during commuting hours throughout the strike period, following the Seoul Metro Labor Union's announcement of a general strike.

The Seoul Metro strike is scheduled to begin on the 6th of next month. Disruptions are expected on subway lines 1 through 8. In response, Gbike explained that it is implementing this free commuting mobility policy to enhance citizens' travel convenience and alleviate transportation inconveniences.

The discount applies to all citizens using GCOO bicycles and scooters within Seoul during the strike period. Free usage is available during commuting hours from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. New users can immediately use the service after downloading the ‘GCOO’ app, completing mobile phone identity verification, and registering their driver's license and payment method. However, those who wish to use only electric bicycles can skip the license registration.

Yoon Jong-su, CEO of Gbike, stated, “GCOO’s electric bicycles and electric scooters are usually used as first-last mile transportation linked with public transit, but in this strike situation, they will serve as a practical alternative to fill the gap left by public transportation.” He added, “We will focus on supporting more convenient travel for citizens and minimizing confusion during this transportation crisis.”
