K Nuclear Power and Electric Equipment Companies Create Opportunities for Expansion into the Middle East and South Asia

Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and KOTRA Hold
Nuclear Power and Electrical Equipment Cooperation Seminar and Consultation in Egypt and India

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) announced on the 22nd that they held seminars and consultation meetings on nuclear power plants (NPP) and power equipment cooperation in Egypt and India to promote the excellence of 'K-Nuclear Power' and create export opportunities.

This event was jointly conducted by five organizations including Gyeongsangnam-do Province, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, and the Nuclear Power Export Industry Association, with participation from companies such as ETUS, a nuclear power control equipment design firm, and BNF Technology, a nuclear power software (SW) solution provider.

These companies first held seminars and consultation meetings at the 'Korea-Egypt Power Industry Cooperation Business Partnership' event held in Cairo, Egypt on the 17th.

The Egyptian government is expanding the use of alternative energy sources such as nuclear power and renewable energy in accordance with its '2050 National Climate Change Strategy.' The four El Dabaa nuclear reactors, ordered by KHNP in 2022, are being constructed with a target completion date of 2030. Equipment delivery is expected to accelerate as the foundational construction phase concludes. KOTRA stated that this event is expected to invigorate the entry of Korean companies into the Middle East and African nuclear power markets.

Additionally, KOTRA operated the Korean Pavilion at the '2024 India Nuclear Power Exhibition Conference' held in Mumbai, India from the 21st to 22nd. This conference is the only nuclear power-related event in India, with participation from over 200 major local nuclear companies including the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), L&T, and BHEL.

India is constructing and operating 24 reactors across seven power plants with a capacity of 8,080 MW (megawatts) to meet rapidly increasing electricity demand and achieve carbon neutrality goals, and plans to add 8,700 MW by 2030.

Kang Kyung-sung, President of KOTRA, said, "The demand for advanced nuclear technologies such as small modular reactors (SMRs) in India will provide our companies with opportunities to enter new markets and demonstrate global technological capabilities."
