KAIST announced on the 22nd that Professor Jihwan Yoo of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has been appointed as the editor-in-chief of the Haptics Journal published by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society.
Professor Yoo's appointment as editor-in-chief of the Haptics Journal is the first case in Korea, and it is the second time that a Korean researcher has served as editor-in-chief among all journals of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society. Professor Yoo's term as editor-in-chief will begin in January next year and last for five years.
Professor Yoo is recognized as a world-renowned scholar who solved the challenges of ensuring stability and time delay issues in the fields of haptics and teleoperation. Through numerous published papers, high citation counts, and international patents, he has also contributed to the fields of haptic interfaces and remote robotics.
In particular, he was acknowledged for his expert leadership in the global haptics field by serving as the general chair of the international conference AsiaHaptics 2018 and as editor-in-chief (EiC) of the World Haptics Conference.
The Haptics Journal, for which Professor Yoo will serve as editor-in-chief, is an academic journal that covers the science, technology, and applications related to acquiring information and manipulating objects through the sense of touch.
This journal covers a wide range of research achievements, including tactile exploration and manipulation in human-machine interactions in real, virtual, remote, and networked environments, human tactile perception and motor control, haptic devices and rendering, and human-machine interaction applications.
Professor Yoo stated, “I will strive to promote the global growth of the haptics field through the development of the journal and to integrate it with robotic technology to provide practical benefits to humanity.”
