Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) held the launch ceremony of the "Gyeongwon Line Undergrounding Promotion Council" on the 21st at Dongdaemun-gu Office, together with six Seoul autonomous districts (Yongsan-gu, Seongdong-gu, Dongdaemun-gu, Seongbuk-gu, Jungnang-gu, Nowon-gu).
At the launch ceremony, the seven autonomous districts jointly signed a petition and an agreement to be submitted to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The "Gyeongwon Line Undergrounding Promotion Council" was established to seek joint responses and cooperation measures for the undergrounding of the Gyeongwon Line (Yongsan Station to Dobongsan Station, including branch lines) passing through seven Seoul autonomous districts.
Prior to the launch ceremony, the heads of the seven Seoul autonomous districts met once in August to reaffirm their commitment to forming and participating in the promotion council.
Going forward, the council plans to jointly promote projects to ensure that the Seoul section of the Gyeongwon Line is finally included in the integrated development pilot project and comprehensive plan for railway undergrounding promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, stated, "I believe we have taken a step forward in railway undergrounding through the launch ceremony marking the official start of the Gyeongwon Line Undergrounding Promotion Council," and added, "Together with the six autonomous districts, we will actively petition the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and others to ensure that the railway undergrounding project route is selected, and we will do our best."
