Counterpoint Research Report Released
Apple Takes Lead in Western European Countries
Samsung Electronics maintained its lead with a 19% share of global smartphone shipments in the third quarter.
Market research firm Counterpoint Research revealed this in its country-by-country smartphone shipment report on the 21st.
According to the report, Samsung Electronics ranked first in market share in 39 countries in the third quarter, holding the top spot in the most countries.
However, it lost the lead to Apple in Western European countries such as Belgium, Austria, Norway, and Switzerland, where it was number one in the third quarter of last year.
Apple's growth in the Western European market was attributed to the early release of the new iPhone 16 series compared to its predecessor, expectations for the AI feature Apple Intelligence, and the replacement cycle of iPhones.
Im Su-jeong, a researcher at Counterpoint Research, predicted, "Typically, Apple sees high sales in the fourth quarter, but if it maintains strong sales in both the third and fourth quarters, it will engage in fierce competition with Samsung for the top spot in the global smartphone market this year."
Counterpoint Research added that Samsung remained strong in regions such as Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America in the third quarter, particularly capturing over 35% market share in countries like Italy, Poland, and Argentina.
