Major media outlets reported on the 21st (local time), citing the Ukrainian Air Force, that Russian forces launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) during their attack on Ukraine.

According to the reports, the Ukrainian Air Force stated that on the morning of the same day, Russia launched an ICBM from the southern Astrakhan region while conducting attacks on Ukraine. This is the first time Russia has used an ICBM in this war.

This Russian attack came after Ukraine launched the US tactical ballistic missile ATACMS and the UK cruise missile Storm Shadow on the 19th and 20th to strike Russia. Previously, Russia had warned that such attempts would escalate tensions.

The Ukrainian Air Force said the attack targeted businesses and key infrastructure in the mid-eastern city of Dnipro. However, they did not specify what exactly the ICBM struck or whether it caused any damage.

ICBMs are strategic weapons with ranges exceeding thousands of kilometers. They can be equipped with nuclear warheads as well as conventional warheads.

Meanwhile, Ukraine also reported shooting down six Russian KH-101 cruise missiles during air defense operations.
