Now in its fifth year, the Smart Construction Challenge is an event hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to promote the development of smart construction technologies and encourage technology discovery. Awards are given in five categories: railway, safety, complex, road, and BIM (Building Information Modeling).
The technology Ssangyong Construction was recognized for this year involves site management solutions utilizing smart data management and automation technologies. In particular, through BIM, it was acknowledged for achievements such as simulation-based interference checks between structures, minimizing construction risks, and improving maintenance efficiency. Additionally, by utilizing a drone earthwork platform and construction equipment automation, it demonstrated improvements of 70% in work efficiency and 84% in constructability compared to traditional surveying methods.
The smart safety management platform, which also received attention, is a technology that prevents safety accidents by monitoring workers' locations and environmental information in real time through on-site monitoring. Furthermore, Ssangyong Construction is actively developing proprietary technologies such as SABU (SsangYong All-in-one BIM Utility). These technological achievements have been actively introduced to new railway sites as well.
Through these efforts, Ssangyong Construction has recorded a total of four awards over five years: the Encouragement Award in the safety sector in 2020, the Innovation Award in the BIM sector in 2022, the Innovation Award in the complex sector in 2023, and this year’s Best Innovation Award in the railway sector.
A representative from Ssangyong Construction stated, "This award is not only a valuable result achieved through collaboration with our partners HD Hyundai Site Solution and GSiL but also an accomplishment from our own technology development. We will continue to advance smart construction technologies to create an innovative construction environment."
