Gwangju City and the Honam region's three metropolitan local governments, including Jeonnam and Jeonbuk provinces, have decided to pool their administrative capabilities to revitalize tourism by jointly developing tourism products.

On the 20th, Gwangju City, Jeonnam Province, and Jeonbuk Province held the '2025 Honam Region Tourism Briefing' at Lotte Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul.

The event was organized to introduce attractive tourism resources and representative festivals of the Honam region, such as Gwangju's representative tourist sites Mudeungsan Mountain and Yangnim Historical Modern Culture Village, the Kimchi Festival, and the Gwangju Biennale, as well as recommended courses, targeting travel agencies located in the metropolitan area, and to explore ways to develop joint Honam region tourism products to attract tourists.

At the briefing, influencers Tursunova Guzal (230,000 YouTube subscribers) and Umarov Husanzhon (820,000 YouTube subscribers) were appointed as honorary global promotional supporters for the Honam region, planning to actively respond to new travel trends through social networking services (SNS).

The three cities and provinces have so far formed the Honam Region Tourism Council together with local tourism corporations and have made joint efforts to revitalize regional tourism. In September, they participated in the Korea Tourism Roadshow held in Manila, Philippines, and conducted joint marketing.

The cities and provinces also plan to develop wide-area tourism products linked to Muan International Airport and will jointly promote the Honam Region Tourism and Culture Week next year.

Lee Seung-gyu, Head of the New Vitality Promotion Headquarters of Gwangju City, said, “Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeonbuk share a thousand-year history and continue mutual growth and cooperation in the tourism sector. We expect this event to be an opportunity to widely promote the diverse culture and attractive tourism resources of the Honam region both domestically and internationally.”
