Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam has submitted the 2025 budget proposal to the city council, focusing on strengthening fiscal soundness, revitalizing the local economy, enhancing the welfare safety net, and actively promoting resident-centered projects.
The total scale of Changwon City's 2025 budget proposal is 3.7717 trillion KRW, an increase of 64.3 billion KRW (1.74%) compared to this year. The general account is set at 3.2912 trillion KRW, up 49.4 billion KRW (1.52%) from the previous year, and the special account is 480.5 billion KRW, an increase of 14.9 billion KRW (3.21%).
Key investment types include ▲ maintenance of social infrastructure to prepare for disasters and calamities ▲ strengthening investments for tailored support across life cycles and realizing inclusive welfare ▲ enhancing urban quality and reinforcing the brand as a cultural and arts city to create urban spaces where people want to stay ▲ boosting competitiveness of core industries and fostering new industries ▲ building safe and convenient living infrastructure and responding to climate change and environmental crises.
In particular, in 2025, projects with high resident proximity were selected as resident-centered projects, with a focus on 11.8 billion KRW allocated to 118 projects across sectors such as road traffic, culture and sports, and disaster management, distributed among the five district zones.
Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, “Although fiscal conditions remain challenging due to the continued decline in national tax revenue collection, we have eliminated waste through rigorous fiscal reforms such as expenditure efficiency and invested properly and boldly where the role of finance is needed. Next year, we will prioritize citizen satisfaction above all and mobilize all administrative capabilities to ensure that the projects of the 8th elected administration produce tangible results that citizens can feel without any setbacks.”
Meanwhile, the submitted 2025 Changwon City budget proposal is scheduled to be finalized after review and approval at the 139th Changwon City Council (2nd regular session) starting on the 25th.
