LetsRun Park Busan Gyeongnam, Horse Island Walking Festival... Popular Family Leisure Culture

Outdoor walking competitions have become a means of enjoying leisure time.

As more people seek unique events instead of traditional marathons where participants compete wearing numbered bibs, a variety of cultural and recreational combined races are creating a sensation. Walking competitions, once regarded as sports, are now being understood as a form of leisure culture.

Korea Racing Authority’s LetsRun Park Busan-Gyeongnam (Head: Eom Young-seok) announced that the “1st Play Walk Horse Island Walking Competition,” held at LetsRun Park Busan-Gyeongnam on the 10th and 17th, was successfully completed with about 500 family participants.

This competition featured a special walking race combined with a game, where participants were divided into the Horse Team and Island Team to complete a 2.5 km course around the lake, collecting stamps from five different landmarks to win. Additionally, participants could experience five traditional folk games?Yutnori, Four Corners, Jegichagi, Ring Toss, and Rolling Hoop?set up at various amusement facilities and event sites operated by LetsRun Park Busan-Gyeongnam, such as the Family Bike, Tour Train, and Sled Hill, making it a walking competition that the entire family could enjoy together, receiving great enthusiasm.

The Horse Island course, revived after five years, included dice rolling games, Velcro soccer, Velcro baseball, shoe archery, and picture matching games, allowing both adults and children to easily enjoy the event. Twenty staff members were assigned to ensure a safe and lively competition. After the games, medals and championship prizes were awarded, creating unforgettable memories for the participants.

Participants showed scenes of encouraging and relying on each other as they competed with other families drawn by team lottery. One participant commented that the smooth progress and variety of games helped create great memories with their children and expressed hope that such family events would be held frequently.

Korea Racing Authority’s LetsRun Park Busan-Gyeongnam stated that it will continue to develop walking competitions as a place of harmony where families, couples, and friends can enjoy together, and will do its best to contribute to the revitalization of local tourism.
