On the 20th, residents were diligently picking golden Chrysanthemum zawadskii flowers, used for chrysanthemum tea and medicinal purposes, at the farm of Mr. Kim Daehyun in Sinpoli, Chilgok-myeon, Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongnam.
Chrysanthemum zawadskii, belonging to the Asteraceae family, blooms corymbose flower heads on the upper part of the stem from September to October. The flowers, mainly yellow or white, are about 2.5 cm in diameter.
The flowers are commonly dried and consumed by infusing in alcohol or as tea. In traditional Korean medicine, they are prescribed for treating feverish colds, pneumonia, bronchitis, headaches, gastritis, enteritis, and boils.
