"Warmth with SME and Small Business Products During Year-End and New Year"… December Donghaeng Festival to be Held

December 1-28 Nationwide Donghaeng Festival Held
Card Discounts for Using Affordable Businesses and Baeknyeon Gage
Special Discount Event Also Held on Online Shopping Mall

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 21st that it will hold the ‘December Donghaeng Festival’ from the 1st to the 28th of next month.

The highlight of this Donghaeng Festival is that among the products of 600 small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners nationwide who participated in the festivals in May and September this year, 100 excellent products selected by consumers and experts will be sold at a focused discount.


First, weekly events will be held. In the first week, from the 6th to the 8th of next month, a special opening event will take place at Hongdae Walking Street in Seoul. During the opening event, about 30 sales and promotional booths will operate, including the Warm Market where visitors can enjoy warm food, sales zones for young merchants, strong small business owners, and Donghaeng companies, and a K-beauty product promotion hall. Various events such as photo zones, live commerce, and busking performances will also be held.


In the second week, on the 13th of next month, a live cooking show using Donghaeng products in collaboration with a famous chef, a Donghaeng fashion show, and a charity bazaar (from the 13th to the 15th) will be held at Happy Department Store in Mokdong, Seoul. The proceeds from the charity bazaar will be donated to marginalized groups.


In the third week and the fourth and fifth weeks thereafter, a Donghaeng product evaluation meeting will be held with distribution company MDs to select excellent companies among the 100 Donghaeng companies, and awards will be given to the most popular products. Additionally, the Donghaeng Awards, where success know-how is shared, will be held.


Regional sales exhibitions and sharing events will be held across the country. Various activities such as special sales exhibitions for small business owners linked to the Daegu Christmas Fair (from the 6th to the 8th), and the Gunsan & Winter Sharing Donghaeng Festival (from the 2nd to the 28th) will be promoted, including product sales, donations to marginalized groups, and win-win sharing events for Christmas and the year-end and New Year holidays. From the 19th to the 22nd of next month, Sodam Market will be held at COEX in Seoul in conjunction with the K-Handmade Fair, and 11 neighborhood commercial district development centers will hold consumer promotion events tailored to the characteristics of each commercial district.


Related associations such as the Korea Women Entrepreneurs Association and the Innobiz Association, public institutions under the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and 36 public and private distribution companies will also participate in voluntary warm-sharing social contribution activities such as donations and delivery of donation goods for single mothers, donation events for single-parent families, and one-meal sharing events with century-old stores.


For consumer benefits, card discount benefits will continue in December at more than 8,000 ‘Good Price Stores’ and about 1,300 ‘Century-old Stores’ nationwide, following May and September. Newly added Lotte Card will also hold events such as a 10% discount at Century-old Stores.


Discount coupons (up to 50% off), time-limited special offers, and special discount events will be held across about 190 channels, including private online shopping malls such as Coupang, 11st, Lotte ON, and public shopping malls operated by the government and local governments. Public Home Shopping and Happy Department Store will hold offline winter product special discount sales (50-80%) for daily necessities, kitchenware, winter cold-weather clothing, sports goods, and food. Eight O2O (online-to-offline) platform companies such as Yogiyo, 11st, and Grip will also support discount coupons.


In addition, the promotional atmosphere will be expanded through experience reviews of Donghaeng products using bloggers and influencers, and challenges and events that anyone nationwide can participate in. A ‘Breathing Life into Donghaeng’ social network service (SNS) challenge will be held with a certification shot event using balloon objects, and prizes will be provided using a ranking game that anyone can easily enjoy on their mobile phones.


Oh Young-joo, Minister of SMEs and Startups, said, “The December Donghaeng Festival is prepared with the theme of warm hearts and sharing, so that people can convey their feelings with high-quality excellent products to those they appreciate during the year-end and New Year holidays. We also hope that the public will add much warmth to the sales exhibitions and sharing events held together across the country.”
