"Taebaek City, the 'Four Seasons Sports City,' Hosts Abundant Weekend Competitions Despite the Cold"

In Taebaek City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, known as the "Four Seasons Sports City," the cold is merely a stimulus that enhances the excitement of sports competitions. On the 21st, Taebaek City announced that despite the cold weather, various sports events will be held abundantly over the upcoming weekend of the 23rd and 24th.

The 16th Taebaeksan Open Badminton Tournament will take place over two days, the 23rd and 24th, hosted and organized by the Taebaek Badminton Association at the High Plateau Gymnasium and the National Sports Center. In this tournament, approximately 1,100 amateur athletes from 540 teams nationwide will compete for rankings in each skill level category.

Additionally, the 5th round of the Taebaek Mayor’s Cup Speed Festival will be held at the Taebaek Speedway over the weekend. The Speed Festival is a nationwide motorsports event featuring racing car competitions, circuit taxi rides driven by professional drivers, and racing car exhibitions as side events. This 5th round will conclude this year’s tournament, which began in April.


On Saturday the 23rd, the Taebaek Mayor’s Cup Disabled Park Golf Tournament will be held at Baeksan Park Golf Course in Taebaek City. This event is the first of its kind, supported by Taebaek City and the Taebaek City Council. Moving forward, Taebaek City plans to continuously host sports competitions for people with disabilities to promote disabled sports, improve leisure culture, and enhance health.


A Taebaek City official stated, “As a four seasons sports city, Taebaek hosts various sports competitions throughout the year,” adding, “With many club members and professional athletes participating, the city’s status as a sports mecca will continue to strengthen.”
