World Premiere at Goldstein House in LA, USA
Hyundai's Passenger Car with Longest Wheelbase... 532 km Driving Range on a Single Charge
Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the large electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) Ioniq 9 for the first time in the world on the 20th (local time) in Los Angeles, USA.
Following the Ioniq 5 (compact SUV) and Ioniq 6 (mid-size sedan), it is the third model to apply the dedicated electric vehicle platform E-GMP. Despite concerns about the electric vehicle chasm, it is evaluated as a demonstration of the company's commitment to electrification transition. The unveiling event marked the first announcement by Jose Munoz, the Global Chief Operating Officer (COO), since being appointed as Hyundai Motor's representative.
The Ioniq 9 is Hyundai's first 3-row electric SUV. By refining its technology and product quality, it is expected to establish itself as the flagship model representing the electrification brand Ioniq. Hyundai introduced a flagship electric vehicle representing the brand despite the bleak outlook for electric vehicles. Especially as the next U.S. administration places emphasis on internal combustion engines, electric vehicles appear to be further constrained.

The company stated that the unveiling of this new vehicle was intended to show the firm determination that electrification transition is the path that must be taken. Hyundai Motor CEO Jang Jae-hoon said in this regard, "It embodies our unwavering will and confidence in the electrification transition," adding, "We will strengthen our leadership in the global electric vehicle market." Although uncertainty in the electric vehicle market has increased, the company expressed its intention to break through head-on.
The design was inspired by a boat, evoking a sleek exterior and spacious interior. The design keyword is ‘Aerosthetic,’ a compound of aerodynamic and aesthetic. The air flap under the front bumper operates doubly to efficiently control airflow and cool powertrain components. The aerodynamic coefficient is 0.259 (based on 19-inch wheels, 2WD, digital side mirrors), the lowest among large SUVs.

The wheelbase, which determines the vehicle's interior space, is 3,130 mm, the longest among Hyundai passenger cars. The Kia EV9, released last year, has a wheelbase of 3,100 mm. The third-row seats in SUVs are often cramped, but this vehicle features a flat floor up to the third row and a curved exterior design, giving a spacious impression. There are four seat configurations in total: one 7-seater and three 6-seater versions.
Four people can simultaneously sit and relax in the first and second rows, and the seats include a massage function using vibration motors. The second row can be equipped with swivel seats that rotate 180 degrees and can be folded in a 60:40 split. The cargo capacity behind the second row is 908 liters, enough to hold four golf bags and four Boston bags each. The center console, mainly used by front-row passengers, can be moved back up to 190 mm so that second-row passengers can also use it.
Lee Sang-yeop, Vice President in charge of Hyundai Genesis Global Design, Jose Munoz, President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Hyundai Motor Global, Ji Sung-won, Head of Hyundai Motor Brand Marketing Headquarters, and Olavishi Boil, Executive Vice President in charge of Product Planning and Mobility Strategy for Hyundai Motor North America, are taking a commemorative photo in front of the Ioniq 9 on the 20th (local time). The battery capacity is 110.3 kWh, enabling a maximum driving range of 532 km on a single charge (based on 19-inch wheels, 2WD, internal measurement). It applies a 400/800V multi ultra-fast charging system that can charge from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes using a 350 kW charger.
There are functions to control battery temperature timed to arrival at charging stations and to provide route guidance reflecting predicted battery charge remaining considering power consumption. The vehicle will be released in two versions: a long-range model focused on extended driving distance and a performance model focused on power, both capable of driving over 500 km on a single charge.

Features on Demand (FoD) service is also available, allowing customers to update functions via wireless software after purchasing the vehicle. Parking assist systems capable of front and side collision avoidance, display themes that change the cluster and navigation screens according to driver preferences, and a 100W USB Type-C charging system are included. The vehicle also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, supplying general power outside the vehicle. For the first time, a function to clean dirty camera lenses has been applied.
The Ioniq 9 is scheduled to be released in the first half of next year. It will be launched first in Korea, followed by overseas markets including the United States and Europe. COO Munoz stated, "The Ioniq 9 will be produced at the new factory in Georgia, USA," adding, "Our goal is to sell 2 million electric vehicles annually by 2030."
