NewJeans Wins Japan Record Award Two Years in a Row... 'Grand Prize Nominee'

'Supernatural' Wins Excellence Award... The Only Overseas Artist

As former CEO Min Hee-jin departed, the impact on ADOR continued, but the group NewJeans demonstrated their resilience. They celebrated a double joy by winning the Japan Record Award for the second consecutive year and simultaneously being nominated for the grand prize.

On the 21st, their agency ADOR announced that NewJeans received the Excellence Work Award at the '66th Japan Record Awards' for their song "Supernatural."

The Excellence Work Award is given to songs released that year which gained great popularity among the public and exhibited outstanding artistry, originality, and planning. NewJeans' song was the only work by an overseas artist nominated in this category this year.

Additionally, the 10 songs selected for the Excellence Work Award become candidates for the grand prize at the ceremony. Accordingly, "Supernatural" is also aiming to win the grand prize at the awards ceremony, which will be broadcast live on December 30.

The Japan Record Awards is a music awards ceremony hosted by the Japan Composers' Association, established in 1959, and is the longest-standing and most prestigious music awards event in Japan.

Riding on their immense popularity, NewJeans will appear on major year-end Japanese broadcasts and festivals. They will meet fans by performing on Nihon TV's "Best Artist 2024" on the 30th and Fuji TV's "2024 FNS Music Festival" on December 4. On December 31, they will become the first K-pop girl group to perform at Japan's largest indoor year-end festival, "COUNTDOWN JAPAN 24/25," marking their final stage of the year.

In 2024, NewJeans achieved remarkable success in Japan. Their Japanese debut single "Supernatural," released in June, topped the Oricon chart on the day of release and received a Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan for shipping over 100,000 copies. This album has sold over 1.26 million copies to date (according to Circle Chart as of October).

Moreover, NewJeans set a milestone as the fastest foreign artist to perform at Tokyo Dome within 1 year and 11 months. They sold out all tickets for their two-day fan meeting "Bunnies Camp 2024 Tokyo Dome" held on June 26-27, attracting a total audience of approximately 91,200.

The Japan Record Awards ceremony will be broadcast live every year on December 30 via TBS.
