Busan National University (President Choi Jae-won) Yangsan Campus Smart Bio Startup Incubation Center and Yangsan Campus Industry-Academic Cooperation Headquarters jointly held the ‘3rd Busan National University Medical Hackathon Competition’ on the 15th at the Yangsan Campus to strengthen biomedical startup capabilities.

This competition, held for the third time this year, targeted Busan National University undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, and staff from Yangsan Busan National University Hospital, Dental Hospital, and Korean Medicine Hospital, aiming to develop startup capabilities and business models in the biomedical field. Through pre-education, mentoring, and final presentation evaluations, it became a venue to discover creative and innovative startup ideas.

In particular, the event sought ways to connect excellent technologies from Busan National University and university hospitals from the laboratory level to industrialization and to help prospective entrepreneurs set concrete commercialization directions.

Among the 19 participating teams, the grand prize was awarded to the ‘Natsang’ team, composed of graduate students from the Department of Law at Busan National University and administrative staff from Yangsan Busan National University Hospital, for their ‘Medical Safety Solution Fall Prevention Product.’ The excellence awards went to the ‘Byeongwongasipsjo’ team of medical students for their cavity-detecting gum ‘I Sanghaess see’ and the ‘Hyeoltuu’ team from the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Yangsan Busan National University Hospital for their idea of a ‘Wearable Vascular Endoscope.’

Ha Ki-tae (Professor, Department of Korean Medicine Science), head of the Smart Bio Startup Incubation Center at Busan National University Yangsan Campus, said, “I hope that the potential startup resources in the biomedical field discovered through this competition will serve as an opportunity to increase their commercialization possibilities.”
