Goyang-si Publishes List of High-Amount and Habitual Tax Delinquents Under Intensive Collection Measures

Total 1,686 People Including 202 New Registrants

Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 21st that it disclosed the list of high-amount habitual defaulters of local taxes and local administrative sanctions and charges through Goyang City's official website on the 20th.

This year's newly disclosed targets include 164 individuals and 38 corporations, totaling 202 entities, with a total outstanding amount of 9 billion KRW. This represents an increase of 5 individuals compared to last year's newly disclosed list, while the outstanding amount decreased by 700 million KRW.

The disclosure targets are local tax defaulters or local administrative sanctions and charges defaulters who, as of January 1, 2024, have had outstanding payments for more than one year from the date of occurrence and whose outstanding amount is 10 million KRW or more, in accordance with Article 11 of the Local Tax Collection Act.

The disclosed items include the defaulter's name or business name (for corporations), age, address, the tax items of the outstanding amount, and the reasons for the delinquency.

Additionally, the city plans to minimize tax leakage by entrusting the Customs Office of the Korea Customs Service to enforce collection measures on carry-on items and imported goods when defaulters on the disclosed list enter the country.

A Goyang Special City official stated, “Despite providing an opportunity for explanation for more than six months, we are disclosing the list of defaulters who deliberately evade tax payments to prevent moral hazard,” and added, “We will do our best to create a social atmosphere where diligent taxpayers are respected and to realize tax justice through strong collection efforts.”
