Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 21st that it held an executive meeting to finalize the 2025 main budget at the Baekseok Office Building on the 20th.

At the meeting, Mayor Lee Dong-hwan stated, “The 2025 main budget was formulated as a budget to support 1.08 million citizens and to revitalize a sound and vibrant local economy despite limited financial conditions. We allocated the budget for establishing a global economic city, including the promotion of the economic free zone, content and MICE industries, and smart development projects, as well as for sustainability initiatives such as the education development special zone, the World Urban Forum, and the establishment of the basic urban plan, to enhance the pride of our 1.08 million citizens.”

Mayor Lee also said, “We have allocated the budget for youth job projects that support small business owners, small and medium enterprises, startups, and encourage the dreams of young people. Above all, we have also allocated budgets for disaster and accident prevention and welfare sectors to ensure the safety and security of our citizens.”

He continued, “However, the city’s financial independence ratio for 2025 is expected to decline by 1.41% from 33.68% last year to 32.27%. Although we would like to increase the budget in all areas, the reality makes it difficult. I ask the heads of departments and division chiefs to inform citizens well about the city’s financial conditions and to communicate effectively with the city council to secure the requested budget, as this budget was painstakingly prepared by all public officials.”

Mayor Lee added, “As 2024 draws to a close, December is a time to wrap up achievements and encourage one another. This year, we believe it was a year of various accomplishments, including the selection of the education development special zone, designation as a venture business promotion district and mini hydrogen city, winning the award for the best city to raise children, and being introduced by the British BBC as one of the world’s top five outstanding cities.”

He further stated, “The successful execution of major city festivals, forums, expos, village festivals, and senior citizen celebrations in the second half of the year was not only the result of the responsible departments and event staff but also the silent support and active participation of private organizations and partner institutions. These human resources are valuable assets of Goyang Special City. I ask the heads of each department and division to look after the various organizations, institutions, and volunteers who cooperated in this year’s projects and events and to extend sincere thanks and words of encouragement,” urging for year-end appreciation of related organizations and volunteers.
