Deployment of 3 Customized Buses During Morning Commute, Expansion to Evening Commute by December
Improving Resident Mobility and Alleviating Congestion During Commute Hours Expected
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that from the 25th, the customized commuter bus No. 8553, operating between Geumcheon-gu Office Station and Siheung 2-dong Byeoksan Apartment Complex, will be in service.
The customized bus No. 8553 will deploy 3 buses during the morning commute hours, operating a total of 9 times at 10-minute intervals from 6:50 AM to 8:30 AM. The route covers a total distance of 7.2 km from Geumcheon-gu Office Station to Byeoksan Apartment Complex. Stops will include Siheung Intersection, Siheung 2-dong Community Center, Byeoksan 1st Apartment Complex, and Geumcheon Science Cube.
This new route was introduced to alleviate residents' inconvenience caused by the suspension of Geumcheon 01 village bus service and to reduce overcrowding on buses during commute hours.
The Geumcheon 01 village bus is currently operating only 9 out of 16 buses on weekdays due to a shortage of drivers, resulting in 143 cancellations, which is 43.6% of the registered 328 scheduled trips.
Additionally, the route has steep slopes, and residents who rely solely on the village bus as their means of transportation have continuously requested relief from transportation difficulties.
Accordingly, the district requested the Seoul Metropolitan Government departments in October to introduce a customized commuter bus. Seoul recognized the necessity and decided to establish the new route. The introduction of this customized bus is expected to improve accessibility between Geumcheon-gu Office Station and Byeoksan Apartment Complex, enhance convenience for residents, and fill the transportation gap caused by the suspension of Geumcheon 01 bus service.
The customized bus for the evening commute will begin operation in December once bus supply and driver recruitment are completed.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “The establishment of this customized bus is an urgent measure to resolve residents' transportation inconveniences and is expected to significantly reduce congestion during commute hours in the area. We will continue to do our best to minimize residents' inconveniences and improve the convenience of public transportation.”
Meanwhile, the customized commuter bus No. 8553 will operate until the Geumcheon 01 village bus service is normalized and transportation inconveniences are resolved.
