1km Section Toward City Hall with 2 Lanes... Expected to Relieve Chronic Congestion

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 21st that it has expanded the straight lane from one lane to two lanes over approximately a 1 km section from Yeosugok Tunnel to Yurim 1 Intersection in the direction of Yongin City Hall on Local Road 321, which had been experiencing bottlenecks due to heavy traffic during commuting hours.

Local Road 321 is a road that leads from Pogok-eup direction, passing the entrance of Seonbongdae, to the Cultural Welfare Administrative Town where City Hall, Yongin Eastern Police Station, and Yongin Office of Education are located, as well as towards Yongin University. Until now, hundreds of vehicles have congested this one-lane section during commuting hours, causing severe traffic jams.

The city secured additional lanes by utilizing national and public land along the roadside and increased the number of straight lanes in this section to two. The construction, which took place from May to this month, involved an investment of 300 million KRW.

Prior to this, early last year, the city expanded one lane in both directions near Yurim 1 Intersection to two lanes to alleviate congestion and also carried out construction to install sidewalks in sections where sidewalks were disconnected for the safety of citizens.

A city official stated, "Before undertaking large-scale and time-consuming road expansion projects, we are implementing various traffic system improvement projects as alternatives to relieve congestion in a short period with a small budget." He added, "We will continue to actively promote traffic system improvement projects to resolve habitual congestion in various parts of the region."
