Osan and Ansan Win Awards at the Mugunghwa Contest Hosted by the Korea Forest Service

Osan City in Gyeonggi Province received the Encouragement Award for Mugunghwa Attractions, while Ansan City won the Grand Prize at the National Mugunghwa Festival Competition.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 21st that Osan City was awarded the Encouragement Award in the recent "11th Mugunghwa Attraction Selection" hosted by the Korea Forest Service, and Ansan City was selected as the top local government in the "2024 National Mugunghwa Festival Competition."

Osan City's "Osancheon Mugunghwa Garden" is a representative leisure space providing exercise and relaxation to residents as a national stream. In the past, Mugunghwa plants were scattered sporadically along Osancheon, but they were systematically gathered and planted, developing into a Mugunghwa garden of approximately 12,000㎡. It is connected to the center of Osan City, Osan Station, and Malgeumteo Park, offering excellent accessibility, and is recognized as a well-maintained attraction with systematic management of the Mugunghwa garden.

Ansan City's "15th Ansan National Flower Mugunghwa Festival" was highly evaluated as a well-organized festival featuring creative and resident participation-centered programs. The festival widely promoted the beauty and symbolism of Mugunghwa by combining related experiences such as viewing the Mugunghwa garden at Ansan Lake Park, a drawing contest, and operating experience booths.

Based on these achievements, Gyeonggi Province plans to further strengthen its Mugunghwa policies.

To this end, next year, two more Mugunghwa gardens and 6.2 km of Mugunghwa-lined streets will be additionally created, and regional festivals linked to Mugunghwa will be continuously promoted.

Gyeonggi Province will provide active administrative support in cooperation with related local governments and will also enhance education and promotional programs to expand residents' participation and raise awareness of the value and symbolism of Mugunghwa.

Lee Jeong-su, Director of the Garden Industry Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "The achievements of Osan and Ansan are examples that well demonstrate the symbolic meaning of Mugunghwa and the potential for regional development. Gyeonggi Province will continue to take the lead in bringing positive changes to local communities and residents' lives centered around Mugunghwa."
