Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 20th that it will operate a Delinquent Tax Mobile Team to strengthen collection activities against high-amount and habitual tax delinquents as the amount of overdue local taxes and non-tax revenues carried over each year continues to increase.

Of the 140.9 billion KRW in overdue local taxes and non-tax revenues carried over this year, 81.6 billion KRW is from high-amount delinquents (1,755 people) who owe more than 10 million KRW, accounting for 57% of the total overdue amount.
The city sends delinquency notices (tax delinquency bills) in bulk to small-amount delinquents to encourage voluntary payment, and for high-amount delinquents, it actively conducts collection activities such as on-site investigations and home searches using the newly established Delinquent Tax Mobile Team since last September.
In addition, for livelihood-type delinquents facing financial difficulties, the city provides installment payment guidance and postponement of delinquency disposition, and prepares support measures through coordination with welfare departments.
Furthermore, the city plans to actively implement suspension of collection for delinquent amounts deemed uncollectible due to reasons such as no assets or business closure, to allow for economic recovery.
Kim Hye-jung, head of the Collection Division, said, “Local taxes are an important resource for citizen welfare and regional development, and fulfilling the duty of sincere tax payment lays the foundation for a community living together.” She added, “Especially, since taxpayer cooperation is the basis for fair tax administration and sustainable regional development, we ask all citizens to faithfully fulfill their tax obligations.”
