Insufficient Evidence for Assault and Injury Charges
Ex-Wife A Claims "Repeated Assaults Over Several Years"
Absence of Medical Records and Kim Byung-man's Denial of Charges
Comedian Kim Byung-man has been dismissed from prosecution by the prosecution regarding allegations of assault against his ex-wife. The Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office decided on the 19th not to prosecute Kim Byung-man for assault and injury charges due to insufficient evidence.
According to the legal community on the 20th, Kim Byung-man's ex-wife, Ms. A, filed a police complaint against Kim Byung-man earlier this year, claiming that "she was habitually assaulted over several years due to family issues." However, the police found that the medical records submitted by Ms. A did not contain any information related to assault, and considering Kim Byung-man's denial of the charges, the case was forwarded to the prosecution with a recommendation for non-prosecution.
Kim Byung-man registered his marriage with Ms. A, a civilian seven years his senior, in 2011 and held the wedding ceremony in March of the following year. The couple lived separately for 10 years after marriage and divorced in 2020.
Recently, after Kim Byung-man appeared on a broadcast and revealed the circumstances of the divorce, a dispute between the two began. Ms. A stated in an interview that she decided to expose the issue after watching the broadcast featuring Kim Byung-man.
Kim Byung-man's side claimed that the ex-wife's assault allegations are not true and that she filed the complaint to gain an advantageous position during the divorce proceedings. They also denied the charges, stating that Kim Byung-man was overseas on the dates the ex-wife alleged the assaults occurred.
