The cheering squad passionately encouraged the athletes participating in the competition and presented a performance expressing the citizens’ strong desire to attract the international skating rink, heating up the atmosphere of the event.
Yangju City and Uijeongbu City are representative cities that have cooperated toward the common goal of attracting an international skating rink. Through this performance, they further strengthened mutual growth and solidarity between the two regions, creating an opportunity to garner support and participation from the local community.
Meanwhile, the selection contest for an alternative site for the Taereung International Skating Rink has been temporarily suspended due to a recent policy review by the Korea Sports Council. In response, Yangju City maintains its position that attracting the international skating rink is an important task that will strengthen local sports infrastructure and contribute to revitalizing the regional economy, and is steadily continuing groundwork in preparation for the resumption of the contest.
Lee Jeong-su, Director of the Education and Sports Division, stated, “This cheering event and performance played an important role in delivering a positive message and raising local residents’ interest despite the suspension of the contest,” and reiterated, “Yangju City will continue its efforts to attract the international skating rink and activities for the development of local sports.”
The city plans to continue its dedicated efforts to expand sports infrastructure based on ongoing activities to attract the international skating rink and the support of local residents.
