Students Kim Taeyong, Heo Junyong, and Hyun Taeyong
Awarded at the Joint Geological Science Conference
Kim Taeyong and Heo Junyong, doctoral students, and Hyun Taeyong, a senior student, from the Department of Earth Environmental System Science at Pukyong National University (President Bae Sanghoon) have consecutively received awards for outstanding research achievements in the field of geology.

Kim Taeyong and Heo Junyong, doctoral students affiliated with the Water Environment Research Laboratory of the Department of Earth Environmental System Science at Pukyong National University, recently received the Student Excellent Paper Presentation Award at the 2024 Fall Joint Geological Science Conference held at Gyeongju Hwabaek Convention Center and the 79th Regular General Meeting of the Geological Society of Korea, respectively.
Doctoral student Kim Taeyong received high praise for his presentation titled “Classification of Research Topics and Analysis of Research Trends in the Journal of the Geological Society of Korea (1964?2024) Focusing on Latent Dirichlet Allocation and Network Analysis” (Advisor: Yang Minjun). He utilized the topic model LDA to analyze research trends from the journal’s inaugural year to the present from multiple perspectives.
Doctoral student Heo Junyong received an award for his presentation titled “Study on Manganese Contamination in Rice and Human Health Risk Assessment” (Advisor: Yang Minjun). He quantitatively analyzed manganese (Mn) concentrations in surface water and rice from rice cultivation areas and presented results of a human health risk assessment based on this analysis.
Additionally, senior student Hyun Taeyong received the Korea National Oil Corporation President’s Award at the “2024 Next-Generation Geoscientist Program” held alongside this conference.
Hyun Taeyong was awarded for his research presentation titled “Interpretation of the Development History of a Detachment Fault Developed on Coastal Outcrops near Daebyeon Port, Gijang-gun” (Advisor: Kim Youngseok).
