Samsung and LG Prove Technological Excellence as No.1 in Key Segments of Global TV Market

Samsung Electronics, No.1 in Market Share for 3rd Quarter Cumulative
On the Verge of 19 Consecutive Years at No.1
LG Electronics Dominates OLED TV Market

Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have once again demonstrated their outstanding technological capabilities by maintaining the number one positions in key segments of the global TV market.

On the 20th, Samsung Electronics topped the global TV market performance rankings announced by the global market research firm 'Omdia,' recording a market share of 28.7% based on cumulative sales for the third quarter. In terms of unit share, Samsung Electronics also maintained first place with a cumulative 18.1% for the third quarter. Especially in the premium product market priced above $2,500, Samsung led with Neo Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diode (QLED) and Lifestyle TVs, achieving a sales share close to half at 49.2%.


Samsung Electronics also held the number one position in the large-size market of 75 inches and above with a sales share of 29.4%. Thanks to strong sales of 98-inch products, it recorded a 32.7% sales share in the market of 80 inches and above. Additionally, in the third quarter of this year, Samsung sold 5.66 million QLED units and 940,000 Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) units, capturing approximately 40% and 25% of their respective product markets.


QLED, which has established itself as a premium product in the global market, achieved cumulative sales of 14.77 million units in the third quarter, showing a growth rate of over 30% compared to the same period last year (10.96 million units). OLED sales reached 3.98 million units cumulatively in the third quarter, growing about 7.3% compared to the same period last year (3.71 million units). Samsung Electronics has maintained the number one position in the global TV market for 18 consecutive years since first achieving it in 2006.

LG Electronics continued its solid number one position in the OLED TV segment. According to Omdia, LG Electronics’ cumulative OLED TV shipments for the third quarter of this year reached 2,070,600 units. The shipment-based market share was approximately 52%.


Led by the Affectionate Intelligence (AI) TV 'OLED evo,' LG Electronics drove its leadership with various form factors including transparent and wireless models, and the industry’s largest lineup ranging from 40 inches to 90 inches. Particularly, in the large-size OLED TV market of 75 inches and above, LG recorded an overwhelming market share of about 56% based on cumulative shipments for the third quarter. LG Electronics plans to aggressively target year-end demand for large-size and premium TVs, leveraging the industry’s largest OLED lineup including the 24-inch wireless OLED TV.
