The Goponghaengjin project was designed to break the stereotype that public officials only perform tasks such as issuing documents and to inform students about the roles of public officials active in various fields.
This program will run from October to the end of November, with approximately 320 middle and high school students in the city expected to participate. Based on a demand survey, students from a total of six schools will participate, and each school will receive customized practical experience to help with career exploration.
The city government will involve public officials from a total of four departments and five teams, including the Future Industry and Broadcasting Video Team, Future Industry and Drone Industry Team, Resource Circulation and Resource Policy Team, Sports Policy and Sports Policy Team, and the Urban Design Office’s Urban Brand Team, to provide students with practical training and experiences that enhance their understanding of city administration.
A middle school student who participated in the Goponghaengjin project said, “I was surprised to learn that public officials are active in various fields,” adding, “I especially learned about the work of the Broadcasting Video Team and the Drone Industry Team, and for the first time, I understood how the various projects operated by the city are delivered to citizens.”
A high school student said, “Through the experience with the Resource Circulation and Resource Policy Team, I learned about Goyang City’s waste issues, waste disposal processes, and costs, and it was impressive to see the treatment process at the incineration plant firsthand.”
A city official stated, “We hope that through this experience program, students will recognize that the role of public officials is not limited to administration but involves important duties of communicating with citizens and leading city governance in various fields,” adding, “We will continue to provide diverse career education opportunities to offer practical help when students consider their career paths.”
Meanwhile, Goyang City recognizes the importance of career exploration during adolescence and operates the Goyang-style Youth Career Experience Program. It supports customized career experiences for middle school students, provides department mentoring through university student mentors, and runs off-campus career and academic counseling consulting for middle and high school students. These various programs help students explore and prepare for their careers more practically.
The city plans to actively support youth career education tailored to regional characteristics and make multifaceted efforts to enable students to explore careers in various fields in the future.
