Accelerating Hosting of International Conferences Based on Cases of Innovative Transformation into Eco-Friendly Cities

At the report meeting, city department heads attended and engaged in practical and concrete discussions to strengthen Pohang City's global competitiveness.
The city attended the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP29) held in Baku, Azerbaijan from the 11th to the 15th, and then moved to T?rkiye, where on the 17th, it visited Beyo?lu District in Istanbul and signed a letter of intent for mutual exchange.
At the report meeting, the achievements from participating in COP29 and visiting Beyo?lu District were shared, and Pohang City's response strategies for attracting future international conferences and effective cooperation with new sister cities were discussed.
The city explored multifaceted strategies to leap forward as a hub for international conferences, including leading carbon neutrality and climate crisis response, strengthening cooperation among global cities, and fostering the MICE industry to create economic synergy.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, "This overseas visit bore fruit by promoting the achievements of Pohang's carbon neutrality policies to the international community and expanding the global network," adding, "We will continue to strengthen all-around cooperation with the international community for sustainable development and lead the region's economic and cultural growth."
Pohang City plans to further accelerate attracting international conferences based on innovative changes toward an eco-friendly city, such as the Greenway Project, introduction of renewable energy, and expansion of urban green spaces.
