Son Byeong-bok, Uljin County Governor, Presents 2025 County Administration Direction for Residents' Happiness

Son Byeong-bok, Governor of Uljin County, Gyeongbuk, declared his commitment to pursuing the happiness of the residents as the highest value and revealed the direction of the county administration for the next year during the policy speech at the 280th regular session of the Uljin County Council on November 20.

First, he expressed gratitude to the residents and the council for their support regarding the proactive promotion of the construction of the Uljin Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex to secure growth engines and the achievement of exemption from preliminary feasibility study just 20 months after the proposal. He also explained the achievements of additional projects that will greatly contribute to the national industrial complex, such as the hydrogen city creation project and the preliminary hydrogen specialized complex, as well as the establishment of a foundation for a tourism leap, the promotion of a major transformation in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, and support for small business owners.


He further detailed the county-centered administrative achievements by sector, including the selection of various public contest projects to improve residential conditions, the opening of the Namuljin National Sports Center, the opening of County Road No. 17 between Sinheung and Samsan, and the expansion of the joint cooking system at Happy Senior Centers.


The directions for county administration in 2025 were presented in five areas: △ Securing future leading projects △ Uljin tourism leap △ Major transformation of foundational industries △ Realization of the sports renaissance era △ Safety and welfare for residents opened through service.


First, to secure future leading projects that will become future growth engines, he explained the future tasks of the ongoing Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex and the plans to link regional economic revitalization with the full-scale commencement of Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4. Preparing for the Uljin tourism leap to attract ten million tourists, he announced plans to create stay-type tourist attractions, prepare tourism products following the railway opening, and develop walking attractions and hub-type tourist spots.


He explained the continued promotion of the major transformation in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, support for small business owners, traditional markets, and revitalization of local jobs, as well as preparations for the sports renaissance era, including the construction of the Uljin gymnasium, sports infrastructure enjoyed by all residents, and attracting training camps.


Additionally, he stated plans to establish safety and welfare for residents through service by preparing measures against low birth rates and local extinction, improving residential environments, and building a people-centered, full-cycle welfare system that residents can feel.


In line with these administrative directions, the total scale of the 2025 budget proposal is 656.8 billion KRW. By account, the general account increased by 6.3% to 592 billion KRW, the special account increased by 2.8 billion KRW to 64.8 billion KRW compared to this year, and the fund operation scale was organized into a total of 10 funds amounting to 185.7 billion KRW and submitted to the county council.


Governor Son Byeong-bok said, “The 2025 budget was organized with consideration of both the priority of projects according to their importance and financial soundness within limited resources,” and added, “I ask for the council’s active cooperation so that it becomes the foundation for regional economic revitalization and residents’ happiness and achieves ‘A New Hope Uljin through Harmony.’”
