The Forest Trail Guardians were voluntarily formed to safely and effectively manage hiking trails and picnic paths within the region.
Currently, 113 members of the ‘Hiking Trail Safety Police Union’ are active, patrolling at least once a month along 21 routes (9 hiking trail sections, 9 picnic path sections, etc.), including Suraksan, a famous mountain in Uijeongbu City.
The main duties include mountain area cleanup, promoting safe hiking culture campaigns, surveillance and crime prevention activities, as well as safety inspections of key forest trail facilities. They identify damaged sections of the trails and promptly share improvement suggestions to enhance the efficiency of forest trail management.
The city plans to continuously communicate to establish an effective maintenance system for the forest trails and to foster a sense of belonging among the Forest Trail Guardians.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun stated, “Through the Forest Trail Guardians, we are autonomously managing our forest trails together with citizens,” and added, “We will listen carefully to the opinions of the Forest Trail Guardians to provide forest recreation services where everyone can hike safely.”
