Meeting Held for Carbon Neutrality-Based Smart City Exchange and Cooperation with Grenoble, France
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) participated in the world's largest smart city expo, the Smart City Expo World Congress (hereinafter SCEWC), held in Barcelona, Spain from November 5 to 7, presenting the future vision of smart cities.
This expo was a platform where countries, cities, research institutions, and large corporations from around the world shared their technologies and visions. Dongdaemun-gu achieved success in promoting its smart city policies and technologies globally and strengthening international cooperation.
This year, SCEWC was held under the theme "LIVE BETTER," attracting over 2,000 visitors and more than 600 speakers from 850 cities across 130 countries, making it a grand event.
Dongdaemun-gu participated in the Seoul Pavilion alongside Gangnam-gu and Seocho-gu, promoting the district’s smart city policies and cases of revitalizing traditional markets using IoT technology, such as the establishment of a smart logistics platform. The accompanying smart solution companies also sought overseas collaboration opportunities.
On the first day of the expo, Ilpyeong Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, delivered a congratulatory speech at the Seoul Pavilion opening ceremony and gave a keynote address titled "Inclusive Smart City" at the 4th Smart City Seoul Forum, sharing Dongdaemun-gu’s smart city policies and vision with the world.
Following this, at the SEOUL NIGHT event, networking with smart city stakeholders was strengthened, and the "Smart Seoul IR Pitching Day," supporting the overseas expansion of excellent domestic innovative companies, was also held.
On the second day, a "Smart City Solution Cross-Verification Project Agreement" was signed at the Seoul Pavilion with the Seoul Digital Foundation and London Thames Freeport.
This agreement is expected to accelerate global cross-verification of smart technologies based on the smart technology cross-verification between Dongdaemun-gu and London.
Additionally, a meeting was held with France’s Grenoble Alpes Metropole, which also participated in the expo, to strengthen intercity cooperation based on the common goal of "carbon neutrality," taking the first step toward building a sustainable smart city model.
On the third day, the expo schedule was successfully concluded with a welcome speech at the Smart City Seoul Policy Forum, the closing ceremony of the Seoul Pavilion, and the presentation of appreciation certificates to outstanding supporters.
Ilpyeong Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "Participating in this SCEWC was a valuable opportunity to showcase Dongdaemun-gu’s smart city vision and technologies to the world. We will continue to implement a sustainable and inclusive smart city centered on people, not just technology."
