Mirae Industry, a specialized company in semiconductor back-end process equipment (CEO Changjae Lee), announced on the 20th that after acquiring a factory located at the center of the semiconductor cluster L-belt in Giheung, Yongin City, its production capacity (CAPA) is expected to increase by more than 60% compared to before.
The newly acquired factory will be used for new product development, R&D research facilities, and recruitment of semiconductor-related personnel. The land area is 18,476㎡ (approximately 5,600 pyeong), and the building area is 11,492.56㎡ (approximately 3,485 pyeong), consisting of a factory from one basement floor to four above-ground floors.
Electrical work for infrastructure construction is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2025. Thereafter, some items such as Test Handlers are expected to be partially operational and produced from the second quarter of 2025, with full operation of the new facilities anticipated in the first quarter of 2026. Additionally, the R&D research facility is expected to be occupied in the third quarter of 2025.
Mirae Industry’s Giheung factory is located within about a 10-minute drive from Samsung Electronics’ Giheung Campus, making the geographical conditions favorable as it is situated at the center of the largest semiconductor R&D cluster in the metropolitan area.
Recently, Samsung Electronics announced plans to invest 20 trillion KRW to build the semiconductor ‘heart’ at the Giheung Campus, highlighting the advantageous geographical conditions. In particular, the company stated that being located near the Giheung IC, which connects the Gyeongbu Expressway and the Yongin-Seoul Expressway, is advantageous for logistics efficiency and reducing transportation costs.
The geographical significance of Giheung is also profound. Recently, Samsung Electronics held an equipment installation ceremony for the next-generation semiconductor R&D complex 'New Research & Development-K' (NRD-K) at the Giheung Campus. NRD-K is a state-of-the-art integrated research and development complex covering 109,000㎡ (about 33,000 pyeong), which Samsung Electronics is constructing to secure future semiconductor technology leadership, with a total investment of 20 trillion KRW planned by 2030.
A representative from Mirae Industry stated, “Due to strong demand for chips supporting artificial intelligence (AI) such as graphics processing units (GPUs), gradual recovery in the NAND flash industry, and rapid depletion of DRAM inventory leading to price rebounds, a recovery in the upstream industry is expected. Accordingly, we are developing new products to capture the next-generation market,” adding, “We expect the factory to be operational as early as the third quarter of 2025.”
Meanwhile, among KOSPI-listed companies, Mirae Industry recorded the highest operating profit margin based on sales from the first to third quarters of this year at 47.50%, an increase of 42.18 percentage points compared to the previous year. Following it were Krafton (46.22%), Hanmi Semiconductor (44.82%), and DoubleU Games (39.40%).
On an individual basis, companies with high operating profit margins based on sales included Krafton (48.64%), Mirae Industry (48.88%), and Hanmi Semiconductor (27.61%).
