Improving Transportation Services Through Public Transit Innovation
Yeoju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Chung-woo) has achieved the great feat of being selected as an ‘Excellent’ city/county within Group D in the 2024 Gyeonggi-do Transportation Sector Excellent City/County Evaluation.
According to Yeoju City on the 20th, this evaluation is a system implemented annually by Gyeonggi-do to discover and spread excellent transportation policies and provide citizens with high-quality transportation services. It is especially meaningful as Yeoju City was selected for the first time this year.
This evaluation was conducted based on performance from January 1 to December 21 of last year, dividing Gyeonggi-do’s cities and counties into four groups according to population size, and comprehensively reviewing five areas: general transportation, traffic safety, taxi administration, public transportation, and transportation information, to select excellent cities/counties.
Yeoju City achieved significant results particularly in the public transportation and transportation information sectors. By expanding the introduction of low-floor buses, it improved mobility convenience for transportation-vulnerable groups and continuously worked to enable people with disabilities and the elderly to use public transportation more safely and conveniently.
Through the ‘Metropolitan BIS Construction Project’ promoted as a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport public contest project, the bus information system was improved and advanced to provide high-quality transportation services to both citizens and visitors.
Along with this, various promotions and policies have been implemented to revitalize public transportation use, greatly increasing citizens’ satisfaction with transportation.
A Yeoju City official stated, “This selection is the result of efforts to provide safe and convenient transportation services to both Yeoju citizens and visitors,” and added, “We will continue to promote public transportation policies considerate of transportation-vulnerable groups, such as expanding low-floor buses, and do our best to ensure that all citizens can enjoy convenient mobility rights.”
