POSCO E&C announced on the 20th that it received the Grand Prize at the 'Africa, Asia, Pacific, Middle East (AAPME) Awards 2024' held by the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) in Singapore on the 15th.
IFLA is the world's most prestigious organization in the field of landscape architecture, established in 1948. Every year, it selects and awards outstanding projects from landscape projects in its 80 member countries that inspire future generations through excellent design, integrated planning capabilities, and innovative ideas.
The Grand Prize-winning project is the rooftop garden at The Sharp Gallery, a complex cultural space opened in September last year in Jagok-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The rooftop garden is inspired by the motif of 'naturalness.' The flow of water starting from the rooftop level is designed to circulate through indoor and outdoor spaces along the visitor's path, connecting all the way down to the first floor.
It features a 'multi-layered planting technique' that creates a more three-dimensional and rich planting design by varying the width and height of planting areas and mixing plants of different sizes. Additionally, the water feature utilizing steel louvers used on the building facade expresses spring water flowing through natural rock crevices, providing a refreshing sound of water.
A POSCO E&C representative said, "Following the Minister of Environment Award at the 14th Korea Landscape Awards this year, our design’s aesthetics and ideas have been recognized by IFLA, the highest authority in landscape architecture. We will continue to contribute to improving the future of the construction industry and creating a sustainable environment."
