The "Top 2% Scientists in the World" list is a global database updated annually to objectively evaluate researchers' academic influence. It targets researchers who have published at least five papers and is based on citation counts derived from the SCOPUS database.
This list is divided into 22 major academic fields and 174 subfields. Researchers are selected based on standardized indicators such as the h-index, co-author adjusted hm-index, and composite score (c-score), analyzing their entire career as well as research performance in the most recent year separately to identify those in the top 2%.
The inclusion of Suncheon National University professors in this list is the result of globally recognized achievements in their respective research fields, which is regarded as an important accomplishment contributing to the strengthening of domestic academic capabilities and the advancement of international scholarship.
Regarding this selection, Professor Kim Byung-chul stated, "This is an achievement that internationally recognizes the research capabilities of Suncheon National University and South Korea," adding, "We will continue to contribute to the advancement of global scholarship through our research outcomes."
President Lee Byung-woon said, "I pay tribute to the passion of the professors who have achieved outstanding results in various fields such as materials science and artificial intelligence convergence research, dedicating themselves to research and development and nurturing future scholars with the goal of practical application and dissemination of research," and added, "We will actively support strengthening the university’s domestic and international research collaborations and expanding those achievements globally."
