Jinju City Holds 'Positive Parenting Ready GO' Ceremony to Commemorate Child Respect Day

Award Ceremony for Contributors to Child Abuse Prevention

Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 20th that it held the ‘2024 Jinju City Child Respect Day Ceremony’ at the first-floor auditorium of Korea South-East Power Co., Ltd. to commemorate Child Abuse Prevention Day.


The ceremony, co-hosted by Jinju City, the Jinju Child Protection Agency, and the Jinju Office of Education in Gyeongsangnam-do, was attended by 200 people including workers from child rights advocacy organizations, children, and families, along with 37 partner organizations.

The ceremony was divided into two parts. The first part began with a song performance by the Goun Bit Sound Choir and a light drawing show. Following this, awards were presented to residents, police officers, and agency workers who contributed to improving children’s rights through child abuse prevention. The event continued with the reading of the ‘Child Respect Practice Declaration’ and a slogan performance of ‘Positive Parenting Ready GO,’ reinforcing the commitment to fostering a culture of child respect among citizens.


In the second part, the family musical performance of Anthony Brown’s ‘The Piggy Book’ highlighted the importance of family, drawing strong positive responses from children and families.


Kim Hye-jin, director of the Jinju Child Protection Agency, said, “Through this event where families can participate together, I hope a culture is established that fosters a correct understanding of children and respects children as individuals.”


Mayor Jo Gyu-il stated, “I hope that this ceremony held on Child Respect Day will further spread a culture in our society where children are respected and their rights are guaranteed. We will do our best to create a child-friendly city Jinju where children can grow up in a healthy environment, including preventing child abuse.”


Meanwhile, Jinju City is actively promoting projects to create a child-friendly city by conducting child respect campaigns throughout 2024, including joint host organization meetings, child rights awareness surveys and report distribution, family picnics, and street campaigns, encouraging direct participation from children, parents, and citizens.
