Samsung C&T Wins Two Top Innovation Awards at Smart Construction Challenge

Samsung C&T Construction Division announced on the 20th that it won the 'Best Innovation Award' in safety management and complex·housing sectors at the '2024 Smart Construction Challenge' hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The Smart Construction Challenge is held annually to discover and promote innovative smart construction technologies integrated with digital technology. Awards are given in five technical fields: safety management, complex·housing, roads, railroads, and Building Information Modeling (BIM).

In this competition, now in its fifth year, Samsung C&T has received the Best Innovation Award for three consecutive years. Notably, this year it won a total of three awards: the Best Innovation Award and Innovation Award in the safety management field, and the Best Innovation Award in the complex·housing field.

The project that won the Best Innovation Award in the safety management field is the 'Excavator Lifting Indicator (LIFE) and Monitoring System.' This system uses various sensors for real-time monitoring to prevent excessive lifting operations (lifting and transporting construction materials), thereby preventing accidents and receiving high evaluations. In case of a hazardous situation, it immediately issues a warning alarm, allowing not only the operator but also the manager to check in real time.

The technology awarded the Innovation Award, 'Eliminating Safety Risks in High-Altitude Work through Robot Construction Methods,' features the automation of high-altitude work (working at elevated locations) using a wall drilling robot, enhancing both safety and productivity.

In the complex·housing sector, the 'Steel Bolt Tightening Automation Robot' received the Best Innovation Award. This technology automates the fastening of structural components at high positions during steel frame work through robots and applies technology that enables stable operation despite changes in the work environment.

All these technologies are currently applied at actual domestic and international sites. Samsung C&T plans to continuously improve their completeness through repeated demonstrations.

Meanwhile, starting this year, Samsung C&T will take the lead in technology as the chair company of the 'Smart Construction Alliance,' a private-led smart construction consortium. It will also participate in the '2024 Smart Construction Expo,' held at KINTEX in Ilsan until the 22nd, showcasing construction robotics as well as construction automation and smart equipment exhibitions.
