Professor Kang Geon-wook, Seoul National University (Non-standing Commissioner of the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission)
The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission announced on the 20th that Professor Kang Geon-wook of Seoul National University has been appointed as a non-standing member of the NSSC.
Member Kang Geon-wook is an expert in the field of radiation medicine, has served as a member of the Medical Subcommittee of the International Commission on Radiological Protection, a director of the Korea Nuclear Safety Foundation and the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety, and is currently a professor in the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Seoul National University College of Medicine.
Non-standing members of the NSSC deliberate and resolve matters related to nuclear safety as stipulated by law, and their term is three years. According to the Act on the Establishment and Operation of the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission, the NSSC consists of a total of nine members: two standing members (Chairperson + Secretary-General) and seven non-standing members (three appointed by the Chairperson's recommendation + four recommended by the National Assembly). Professor Kang Geon-wook was appointed as a non-standing member by the Chairperson's recommendation.
