Discovering and Promoting Recipients for the 'Veterans Meal Prepared by Mapo Residents' Project

For the ‘Veterans’ Meal Prepared by Mapo Residents’ project, nine heads of veterans’ organizations belonging to the Mapo-gu Veterans Hall Operation Council have stepped forward as a promotion team.

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) held the launch ceremony for the ‘Veterans’ Meal Prepared by Mapo Residents’ promotion team on November 19 at the Mapo-gu Office’s medium conference room.

The ‘Veterans’ Meal’ project prioritizes selecting senior veterans aged 75 and older as recipients of the ‘Resident Participation Filial Piety Meal’ support program.

Recipients receive a balanced lunch along with one-stop welfare services including welfare checks, health, legal, and tax consultations.

Before the launch ceremony, the heads of veterans’ organizations toured the Filial Piety Meal side dish factory to directly check the side dishes served in the meals.

The launch ceremony was attended by Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, the veterans’ organization heads who completed the tour, and Lee Hong-ju, Chairman of the Mapo Welfare Foundation.

The ceremony proceeded with an introduction to the ‘Veterans’ Meal’ and ‘Filial Piety Meal’ projects, the presentation of appointment certificates to the promotion team by Chairman Lee Hong-ju, the promotion team’s pledge, and congratulatory remarks by Mayor Park Gang-su.

Lee Seok-han, head of the Mapo branch of the Republic of Korea Military Merit Awardees Association and representative of the promotion team, said, “We sincerely thank Mapo-gu for remembering and respecting the dedication and sacrifice of national veterans,” and added, “We will do our best as the promotion team to expand the ‘Veterans’ Meal’ project.”

Applications for the Veterans’ Meal are continuously accepted, and applicants can apply at their local community service center.

Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo-gu said, “I thank the heads of veterans’ organizations who willingly took on the promotion team activities for the Veterans’ Meal project, which was started to provide practical and everyday support for veterans,” and added, “We will deliver a warm and heartfelt meal, along with friendly welfare checks and respect, to national veterans with the citizens of Mapo-gu.”
