Meritz Securities expected synergy effects from Robotis' collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on the 20th.
Robotis announced the day before that it would partner with MIT to develop advanced robot technology with enhanced physical intelligence. Robotis and MIT were selected for an international joint R&D project organized by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
Jiho Lee, a researcher at Meritz Securities, explained, "Developing physical AI by modern robot companies beyond traditional industrial robots is not a choice but a necessity," adding, "Robotis implemented autonomous driving technology through vision sensors (cameras) in AMR (Ant series)." He further stated, "Since physical artificial intelligence (AI) in terms of mobility has been realized, the next step is AI development for manipulators to expand the form factor."
The researcher analyzed, "The robot platform used in the joint project is expected to be the new collaborative robot OM-Y (Open Manipulator), which Robotis plans to launch within the year," and added, "It is judged that the necessary business has appeared at the right time." He explained, "Compared to software development using only in-house personnel, it is expected to be efficient in terms of time and cost," and "Concerns about increased selling and administrative expenses due to the launch of new product lines will be partially offset by subsidies, limiting the impact."
He assessed, "The collaboration with MIT could serve as a positive reference for Robotis' collaborative robot business," and "Joint development is a positive factor in various aspects."
