Super Heavy Booster Landing in the Gulf of Mexico
SpaceX, the space company led by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, launched the 'Starship' under the observation of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
On the 19th (local time) at 4 p.m. (Central Time), SpaceX launched the Starship for its 6th Earth orbit test flight from the space launch site 'Starbase' located on the southern Boca Chica beach in Texas.
This test flight, broadcast live online, was an unmanned flight with no astronauts onboard or cargo loaded. Similar to the 5th test flight, the goal was to recover the 'Super Heavy' booster, which separated from the Starship, mid-air using the launch tower's 'Mechazilla' equipment, but this time it landed in the Gulf of Mexico.
President-elect Trump also visited the launch site and observed the launch alongside CEO Musk. On the plane heading to the launch site, Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social, "Heading to great Texas to see the largest object ever lifted from the ground heading to space," expressing his anticipation by saying, "Good luck to Elon Musk and the great patriots involved in this amazing project."
Previously, SpaceX conducted five similar Earth orbit test flights in April and November of last year, and March, June, and October of this year. Among these, the first four flights until June experienced significant failures, but on the 5th flight on the 13th of last month, they succeeded in executing almost the entire process according to plan.
