The Daein Art Market, a representative night market in Gwangju, recorded 200,000 visitors this year. It is especially praised for adding unique colors to the night market by operating in seasons and presenting distinctive content.
On the 19th, Gwangju City announced that the Daein Art Market, which was operated in 12 sessions from Season 1 to 4 from May 25 to the 16th of this month, successfully concluded with over 200,000 visitors.
The Daein Art Market is part of the "Asia Culture and Arts Hub Activation Program" promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Gwangju City. It is a cultural and artistic content project that combines culture with traditional markets to revitalize traditional markets by increasing foot traffic in the old downtown and Daein Market, as well as supporting local artists.
This year, it was operated in 12 seasonal sessions starting from May. Each season featured distinctive content such as Korean-style horror experiences, Y2K retro, and traditional Chuseok games, attracting more than 15,000 visitors each time. Various programs were held, including traditional market memories and food, busking performances, pottery experiences, and board game zones.
Kim Seong-bae, Director of Culture and Sports, said, "The Daein Art Market, which gave citizens joy, rest, and inspiration through culture, arts, tourism experiences, and food, has successfully concluded this year," and added, "Next year, we will do our best to make the Daein Art Market grow into a tourist destination representing not only Gwangju but the entire country."
